ORTHOTIC AND PROSTHEIC RESIDENCY PROGRAM

Orthotic & Prosthetic Lab is one of the most respected and well-established O&P practices in the St. Louis and Southern Illinois area. Our program is designed to meet the training needs of the new graduate. We view our residency as an extension of learning. Therefore, we focus on the resident’s clinical learning needs and goals to prepare them for independent practice. We are committed to training orthotist and prosthetist professionals by building their skills and developing their focus on patients. Our structured education is strategically designed to assist resident in achieving a mastery of the O&P profession, by providing residents with one-on-one attention, hands-on learning, and access to the area’s leading hospitals, clinics, and physicians. We acknowledge and respect the diversity of our residents, and work hard to support a broad range of learning styles.

OUR MISSION

Our mission is to provide a supportive educational environment where residents can cultivate their professional competence and independent clinical decision-making. This is accomplished by providing residents a structured training program with an exposure to a wide array of pathologies and a diverse patient population of pediatric, adult and geriatric patients.

RESIDENCY STRUCTURE

We usually take two residents annually. We provide back-to-back 12-month residencies in orthotics and prosthetics. While we can do a combined 18-month program we prefer teaching once discipline at a time to prepare the resident completely for their board exams.

RESIDENCY HIGHLIGHTS

  • Routine feedback from mentors and expectation of self-assessment after patient interactions
  • Participation in multi-disciplinary clinics
  • Large and diverse patient base
  • Pathology of the day quizzing and use of various practice models to augment learning.
  • Hands-on experienced mentors
